I love the second shot: Can’t. Move. Gimme. Food.
There were some really great costumes at the race. Lots of Incredibles, Wonder Women and Super Moms. There was a Captain America, an Iron Man (!!), several Batmen and Robins, Green Lanterns. My favorite made up costumes were two women wearing capes—one burgundy colored, one chardonnay—and grapes in their hair. They were the Wonder Winos. Hilar! There was also a woman who we think was another Clash Girl (but no awesome name plate) so I let her eat my dust.
RACE PICTURES!!
This race was so much fun. There were probably three times as many runners as my first and as many more people cheering. Both of those things made a huge difference. Plus at any time you could distract yourself with trying to figure out what other people were dressed as. I also definitely felt that as runners we were supporting each other a lot. When we crossed Mile 12, the people I was near and I all started cheering and clapping and yelling “One mile left!!!!!” And that’s when you know, I’ve done 12, of course I can do one more!
But this race was also a lot harder. The course itself was more difficult because there were several hills, but I’ve been doing hill training every week so that didn’t bug me too much. Around mile 5 my left knee started hurting really badly. Every so often when I run it will twinge a little, but this was different. I had to stop and stretch several times and even after walking a bit it wouldn’t go away. Since the race was two 6.5 mile loops I decided to keep running and if the pain hadn’t stopped by the end of the loop, that I would quit. But I didn’t want to let my tumblrunners down!! Luckily it stopped in time and I was able to keep going.
Even with the stopping and walking, I ended up beating my first race time by five minutes! Woop woop!! However, due to some conspiracy on the part of the race organizers, I did NOT win the costume contest. LAME.
There are some pretty hilarious post-race photos of me, so I’m posting them next.
